Youth sports teams will celebrate spring openers starting this month

The spring season of youth sports groups kicks off this month with several opening day ceremonies on tap – including the golden anniversary celebration of South Mission Viejo Little League.

For that 50th milestone anniversary, South Mission Viejo Little League will host players from the 1997 Little League National Championship team for a special commemoration. The opening ceremony is at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 25 at Youth Athletic Park.

Before those festivities begin, join North Mission Viejo Little League at Youth Athletic Park for its opening ceremony at 9 a.m.  Folks will have the chance to dunk their favorite team manager or coach in a dunk tank and enjoy an inflatable slide, cotton candy, face painting and food.

Mission Viejo Girls Softball (MVGS) swings into high gear on February 25 with a spectacular parade of teams and players starting at 11 a.m. at Craycraft Field. MVGS is an ASA-affiliated Junior Olympic FASTPITCH SOFTBALL recreation league.

A few days after the girls’ opening day, Rancho Mission Viejo Little League will celebrate its 25th season with ceremonies starting at 5 p.m. on March 3 at Curtis Park. The fun includes music, bounce houses, pizza and two majors’ teams playing at 7 p.m.

Viejo Little League rounds out the excitement of spring openers on Friday, March 3 with a special ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. at Gilleran Park.
