Local musician Philip Bardowell will perform during a special tribute for healthcare workers at the Symphony in the Cities and Prelude in the Park event Saturday, Aug. 14 on the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park.

Bardowell is an accomplished singer-songwriter; guitarist; pianist; former member of the Beach Boys; and now a Mission Hospital nurse. During the pandemic, Bardowell decided to add a nursing degree to his extensive resume. With a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from California State Long Beach, he was able to fast-track his way into a nursing program at Golden West School of Nursing. He graduated in May 2020 right after the pandemic started.

"I am fortunate and blessed to serve as a caregiver RN at Mission Hospital on the Medical Surgical/Oncology floor 3 West," Bardowell said. "I love being a nurse and always wanted to do something in healthcare.  I consider my role as an RN to be an extension of my ministry, and I feel honored and privileged to be a part of the profession."

Along with his stint with the Beach Boys, Bardowell appeared on the show "Full House" as a member of Jessie and the Rippers; toured with legendary surf duo Jan and Dean; Peter Criss and Ace Frehley of KISS; and recorded a solo album, "In A Perfect World."

During his free time, he is a worship leader at Shepherd of the Hills and The Gate Christian Bible Church in Mission Viejo. Bardowell lives in Mission Viejo with his wife Sarah and their three sons - Isaiah, Jonah and Elijah.

Oso Viejo Community Park is next to the Norman P. Murray Community Center at 24932 Veterans Way. The event is from 4 to 8:30 pm with the tribute kicking off just before the Pacific Symphony takes the stage at 7 pm.
