Take part in City's 5th Annual Scarecrow Contest

scarecrows

The City is seeking Mission Viejo-based businesses, nonprofit organizations (churches, scouts, schools and charities) to make a scarecrow for its 5th annual Scarecrow Contest.

The City's fun, spooky contest calls for businesses and nonprofit organizations to design and create a scarecrow for display at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center in October. The City will build the frames and bases (made from wood and cement) or organizations can make their own. Each scarecrow will be tagged with the organization's name and on display during the popular Walk Against Drugs.

The public will judge the scarecrows and vote online for their favorites. The categories include Most Humorous; Spookiest; Best Traditional; People's Choice and Best Character from a Cartoon, Movie, or Comic book. Each entry can win only one category.

Here's the timeline:

  • Sept. 13 - 27: Pick up frames at the Murray Center by making an appointment with Andrew Fine at 470-3061 or RCS@cityofmissionviejo.org.
  • Oct. 6 - 12: Deliver your finished scarecrow to the Murray Center (by appointment only).
  • Oct. 13- Nov. 4: Scarecrows will be on display. Voting ends on Oct. 28
