Mission Viejo resident grows giant pumpkin in her front yard

Mission Viejo resident Dalal Dawly has always enjoyed gardening and finding out if she could grow different vegetables and fruit. This year, she discovered she could grow a giant pumpkin in her front yard.
 
City staff stopped by Dalal’s home Monday to find out about growing the giant pumpkin, caring for it and if it will be turned into a giant pumpkin pie.
 
Dalal said she took the seeds from a pumpkin her son gave her and planted them in April.  She has never grown pumpkins before, so it came as a nice surprise when this pumpkin blossomed to more than 75 pounds. 
 
As to the fate of the colossal pumpkin, which is too large for Dalal to pick up, that remains uncertain – but it will certainly make a great jack-o'-lantern come Halloween!
