Council will recognize outstanding employees, consider Mid-Year Budget and ordinance amending the Municipal Code

council meeting

The City Council on Tuesday, March 8 will recognize the 2021 Employees of the Year from the City, Mission Viejo Police Services and Orange County Fire Authority.

The Council will also recognize the "Marines of the Quarter" from the City's Adopted Headquarters Battalion of the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton.

During Tuesday's meeting, the Council will consider the Mid-Year Budget Review for FY 2021-22 and is expected to proclaim March as "Red Cross Month."

In other Council news, an ordinance will be introduced to amend the City's Municipal Code regarding the transition to district-based voting. This follows the February 22 meeting where Council Members voted unanimously to select Map A.

The meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center. Meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.

City Hall will exaggerate its outreach to the public on city affairs. But the devil is in the details.

Using agenda management, the voting rights issue is at the end of the agenda for the March 8 council meeting. They do not want to hear from the public.

You will not find in this press release that the Council has already decided that 40% of our citizens will not have a vote in this November 2022 council election.

On March 8, the Council will vote to limit our voting rights to only those votes residing in Districts 1, 3 and 5.

On September 14, 2021 and again on February 22, 2022, the council disguised their discussions to extend the terms of Trish Kelley and Brian Goodell to November 2024, thereby cancelling Districts 2 and 4 from the 2022 council elections.

Both of those discussions were held at the end of the meeting, under City Attorney Reports. There was not a staff report for the public to respond to and the council discussions were not included in the official Minutes.

Our right to vote is the only power voters have. Will the selfish and self-serving desires of the Council end up with recall petitions? Will the Council continue to game the system? Or with an open discussion in the presence of our voters, will the Council see clear to restoring 100% of the public its right to vote this fall?

If staggered elections are the excuse to take away the voters voice, then similar to 1988, stagger the districts to 2 year and 4 year terms to start off these district based elections.
