Council approves plans to enhance pedestrian safety, a park play area as well as refinements to the Housing Element

council meeting update

The City Council on Tuesday gave the green light to a citywide project that will enhance pedestrian safety as well as a plan to improve a park play area, among other business including an update to the City's Housing Element.

Encompassing the Council’s priority to improve one park play area per year, Council Members approved a design contract to prepare construction drawings for a Crucero Park Play Area Rehabilitation project at 27672 Crucero.

As part of a Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Grant and to assist pedestrians at crosswalks, the Council authorized staff to advertise for construction bids for the citywide installation of audible pedestrian push buttons on existing traffic signal infrastructure. The good news is the City was able to secure this type of grant, which is often difficult to obtain.

The refinements to the Housing Element, part of the City’s General Plan that includes programs and objectives to further the development, improvement and preservation of housing, also passed unanimously. The City hosted multiple community meetings and workshops this year and has worked closely with the State to get the element into compliance with State law. Some residents complimented the City for its diligent and hard work. The document will go to the State’s Department of Housing and Community Development for final approval.

During the presentation part of the meeting, Moulton Niguel Water District provided a detail update about its planned improvements over the next few years.

The City Council normally meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will take place on December 12 (due to the Thanksgiving holiday). Council meetings are streamed live on the City’s website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
