City Council's first meeting of the new year is Jan. 9

Council Meeting Update

During the City Council's first meeting of the new year, Mayor Trish Kelley will highlight her 2024 objectives, and the Council will consider traffic safety enhancement to benefit the community, among other business.

The business portion of the January 9 meeting begins at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

Before Mayor Kelley outlines her goals for the new year, Council Member Brian Goodell will be recognized for his service to the City as Mayor in 2023.

The Council will also consider establishing a School Zone along Santa Margarita Parkway between west City limits and Los Alisos Boulevard and reduce the posted speed limit from 50 mph to 25 mph while children are present. The Traffic Committee considered the item last year and also recommended improvements at the school driveway on Santa Margarita Parkway to enhance safety and visibility.

In other Council news, a check of the money raised from the 3rd Annual Konrad Reuland Charity Tennis/Pickleball Tournament will be presented to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. Created in honor of Konrad Reuland, a former NFL football player and Mission Viejo resident who died of a brain aneurysm at age 29, the event raises funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, Donate Life, Spirit League Special Needs Sports in Mission Viejo, and the Lisa Colagrossi Foundation.

City Council meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
