The City of Mission Viejo on Monday, April 15 is hosting Narcan (Naloxone) training designed for youth aged 12 and older.

The training event begins at 4:30 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

Naloxone is a lifesaving medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids"”including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioid medications"”when given in time.

The need for this training is there.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States is experiencing an epidemic of drug overdose (poisoning) deaths. Over the past decade, the rate of deaths from drug overdoses has increased 137 percent including a 200 percent increase in the rate of overdose deaths involving opioids. Narcan Nasal Spray is an opioid antagonist designed to reverse the respiratory depression caused by an overdose of opioids.

Participants who complete the training will receive one Narcan Nasal Spray kit. Parents and guardians are invited to attend.

Space is limited. Register today to learn about this life-saving measure and pick up valuable resources from Orange County Health Care Agency and the City of Mission Viejo on drug abuse prevention.
