Saddleback College will break ground on new stadium March 12

Saddleback College will begin a new chapter in its history on Monday, March 12 when it breaks ground on a new stadium.

The new sports complex will feature 8,000 seats, a nine-lane running track, two turf football practice fields and a soccer field, thrower’s park, concession stand, viewing platform, storage area, modern press box, team meeting rooms, state-of-the-art scoreboard, sound system and more. 

In a press release, Saddleback College President Gregory Anderson said he has a long-term vision for the complex and believes it will bring the community together.

“I envision the college becoming the hub for all of south Orange County,” he said. “The college will be able to serve the region in so many ways.  In addition to our own sports and events, we are looking forward to hosting large community events, concerts and regional and state sports championships, while continuing to use this very large classroom to teach our student athletes.”

The new stadium will meet the requirements to host NCAA and USA track-and-field meets as well as high school playoffs and accommodate local high school football programs that use the stadium as their home field.

The original stadium was built in 1969 and has been unable to keep up with the modern-day demands of the region. The new stadium is expected to open in late spring 2019.  See a recent episode of “Coaches Corner” about the renovations.
