Parents and teachers are invited to an essential workshop designed to increase awareness of a public health crisis facing our country.

The "Youth Resilience Workshop" is at 6:30 p.m. on May 23 at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Western Youth Services (WYS) is teaming up with our City to teach parents, teachers and other youth influencers about the ground-breaking Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study that is changing the way childhood stress and trauma is addressed. The goal is to lead a global movement to shift the paradigm of ACEs and teach methods to prevent their negative, long-term effects.

By participating in the workshop, you will take the ACEs survey and gain a closer understanding of its impact; collaborate with community members to help our children heal from the predictable impact of ACEs; and walk away empowered with a heightened awareness and understanding of how to better care for our youth. The workshop will also feature the acclaimed documentary "Resilience: The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope." The documentary shows how toxic stress, caused by abuse and neglect during childhood, can be a precursor of a lifetime of physical and mental illness. It also shows trailblazers addressing this issue and providing ways for others to make a difference.
