Israeli burger chain slated to open this fall

Israeli burger chain Burgerim is expected to open in Mission Viejo this fall. The eatery will be housed in the new GreenStreet development under construction on Marguerite Parkway.

Burgerim, which means "many burgers" in Hebrew, features mini burgers made of unique patty styles and unorthodox toppings like pineapple, sautéed mushrooms or a fried egg. On June 11, the Planning and Transportation Commission gave the eatery the green light to serve signature craft beer. See the full menu at https://www.burgerim.com

Certificate of Occupancy Fee Waiver

In an ongoing effort to encourage and support new business in Mission Viejo, the City Council approved a fee deferral program to assist businesses navigating the City's building permit process.

The new program waives the fee for a Certificate of Occupancy permit when a change in business name and/or ownership is made.  This is a common permit, especially with smaller mom-and-pop businesses, which tend to occupy a new lease space but don't need tenant improvement work.  The Certificate of Occupancy permit typically costs $217 and involves one or two on-site inspections by the City's Building Division.

The City's Building Division contractor Charles Abbott Associates agreed to forgo its payment due from the City for these permits, which lowers the impact of the proposed fee waiver program on the City's budget. This saves the City about $11,000 a year. The program began on July 1.  For more information, contact 949-470-3054 or bldgservices@cityofmissionviejo.org.
