Two traffic-improvement projects begin Sept. 10

cars on the road

The City of Mission Viejo will begin two intersection-widening projects on September 10 designed to improve traffic flow in the area.

The first project at Alicia Parkway and Marguerite Parkway calls for constructing a dual left-turn lane from westbound Alicia onto southbound Marguerite. It will also build a third through lane on eastbound Alicia.

The second project at Marguerite Parkway and Santa Margarita Parkway entails constructing dual left-turn lanes from northbound and southbound Marguerite Parkway onto Santa Margarita Parkway.

Temporary striping will be in place for both projects to safely provide for two through lanes and one  left-turn lane in each direction during non-working hours and a minimum of one through lane and a left-turn lane during working hours to provide space so the contractor can work.

Working hours are from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. These hours were selected to maximize the contractor's working time each day while minimizing conflicts with rush-hour traffic. Please use alternate routes during working hours if possible.

Barring any weather-related delays, the projects are expected to be completed just after the new year. For more information, call 949-470-3080.

Left Turn Light Signal Southbound at the Intersection at Marguerite Parkway & La Barca Left Turn has been shortened and is backing up onto Marguerite. Cars are swerving into the right lane to avoid the back-up. This is an accident waiting to happen, previously the Southbound turn lanes would go at same times as the Northbound.

Concerned Resident.
