Green bench at Norman P. Murray Center designed to spark conversations about mental health

In honor of May's designation as Mental Health Month, the City is partnering with Mission Hospital to promote the Each Mind Matters campaign.

Each Mind Matters is California's Mental Health Movement, created to unite people who share a vision of improved mental health and equality. Every day, millions of people face stigma related to mental health because they or their loved ones are facing a challenge. Many people feel isolated and alone, going years before receiving any help. The campaign's goal is to amplify the voices of all people who want to put an end to this stigma, creating a community where everyone feels comfortable reaching out for the support they deserve.

A signature program element of Mission Hospital's local Each Mind Matters effort is a park bench adorned in lime green, the national color for mental health awareness. The portable bench and display are a reminder about the importance of starting a caring conversation about mental health in a safe, comfortable and familiar space.

Through May 22, the bench is located just inside the doors of the Norman P. Murray Center at 24932 Veterans Way with detailed information and resources to help folks facing challenging times.  In addition, the center will host a special free workshop at 10 am on May 20 dubbed "Nutrition for the Mind-Eating for Cognitive Health."
