See exquisite works of art at Mission Viejo Library

Evie Priefer

Have you been to the Mission Viejo Library lately? While there grabbing a book or enjoying the vast resources, check out the impressive artwork on display in the library gallery by Mona Shehabi and Evie Priefer.

Mona Shehabi is a trained architect whose art was influenced by her Palestinian heritage and the American passion for quilting.

Her designs are derived from traditional Palestinian embroidery.  She combined those patterns with Appliqué techniques to create these Haneen illustrations, each with distinctive colors. Mona uses fabric techniques to introduce the vibrant and unique threads in these traditional designs.  All illustrations are original.

The work of the late Evie Priefer is inspiring to the say the least. Born in 1919, Evie grew up in a Polish-speaking family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  In her teens, she longed to attend art school but couldn't because her father disapproved. So instead, she purchased instructional art books and learned to draw on her own producing pencil sketches.  Years later in the 1970s while living in Phoenix, Arizona, she took adult art classes at a local public school, chose oil as her medium and enjoyed painting landscapes and still life.  Her inspiration came from her time living in Wisconsin and from the beautiful desert surrounding Phoenix.

See these exhibits on display through January 5, 2020 at 100 Civic Center.
