Nomination Period for City Council Candidates begins July 13

vote 2020

The filing period to run for Mission Viejo City Council opens Monday, July 13 and ends Friday, August 7.

Two City Council seats are open in the General Municipal Election, which takes place on November 3. Candidates have until 5 p.m. on August 7 to file nomination documents and statements of qualification for office. The deadline extends to Wednesday, August 12 if an incumbent is not running for re-election and does not file papers by the August 7 deadline.

To qualify, a candidate must reside in Mission Viejo and be registered to vote at the time nomination paperwork is picked up. There is no fee to run for City Council; however, candidates may submit a “Candidate’s Statement” for the Voter Information Pamphlet for a fee of $779.29 or pay $301.29 for an electronic-only version of the statement.

Candidate packets must be obtained from the City Clerk. For more information and to schedule an appointment, contact the City Clerk’s office at 949-470-3052 or cityclerk@cityofmissionviejo.org.
