Happy 33rd birthday Mission Viejo

library construction

Over the past three decades, Mission Viejo has grown from a small community with approximately 67,000 residents to more than 95,000 - and with good reason. Our City enjoys a high quality of life.

Two gems were built back in the 90s - the Animal Services Center and the Mission Viejo Library. In 1993, the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center - which now serves a total of five cities - opened and became the first pro-humane shelter to service the community in South Orange County. The center has provided invaluable services through pet adoptions, licensing, low-cost vaccination clinics, events, education and more. A few years later in 1997, the Mission Viejo Library opened to the public providing essential free adult, teen and children's educational programs and services in one of the few city-run libraries in Orange County.

Throughout the next two decades, public parks opened, art was placed around the City; the recreation and tennis centers received renovations and enhancements; signature events such as Symphony in the Cities and Arts Alive were formed; and network infrastructure was prioritized for rapid technology advances including free Wi-Fi at City facilities, an official website, mobile applications, document management system, security and more. The library also expanded during this time with the addition of Mission Viejo Television Studio (MVTV) and remodeled Storytime Room.

Mission Viejo continues to grow and become more beautiful each year with YOUR help! We hope our residents enjoy living, working and playing here as much as we enjoy serving you.

Thank you, Mission Viejo community!
