Weathered Patterns
-
Located at Madrid Fore Park, WEATHERED PATTERNS is the free expression of more than 400 community members from South Orange County who decided to satisfy their curiosity and see what beautiful patterns they could create using simple hardware and items found in everyday life.
The stained colors of the wood are weathered in appearance and will continue to change and mature over time. Weathered Patterns is the City of Mission Viejo’s first interactive public art piece.
The City launched this unique art installation in 2023 at the Monthly Saturday Night Markets. The community embraced the unique concept from the outset, and many people have returned each month to continue helping create the twisting patterned wood blocks.
Weathered Patterns is a collection of 16 columns of varying heights. Each column is made from a series of twisting wood blocks. The overall art piece contains 140 blocks or 560 unique and inspired patterns.
