New golf carts replace outdated models at newly renamed Oso Creek Golf Course

new golf carts

Shiny new golf carts arrived at the Oso Creek Golf Course today, replacing dilapidated carts used at the 69-acre golf course for decades.

The arrival of the new golf carts comes on the heels of much-needed enhancements and upgrades the City has been making to the golf course and clubhouse that were built in 1970.

“Played the newly renamed Oso Creek Golf Course this morning Thursday, September 17 and was proud to be the first player to head out to the first tee in one of their beautiful new golf carts,” said longtime golfer Steve Mundell. “Didn’t improve my score, but I certainly looked good in their new silver ride!”

Congrats Mission Viejo, long time coming and well received by us regulars. Please make sure there are enough keys to back up these new carts. New name, new carts...well done! Looking forward to future enhancements.

I saw the new carts last night, loaded on two trucks on Marguerite, bound for the newly-named Oso Creek Golf Club... Yay !!!

Will you host events such as 75th birthday galas and at what time must the revelers leave Oso.Creek.Golf.Course ballroom? Perhaps post covid 19 pandemic.

Sixty (60) people submitted the name "Oso Creek" for the Golf Course Naming Contest. Per the contest rules: "If more than one person submits a name that is chosen as a finalist, only the FIRST person who submitted the name (based on the electronic time stamp from the submission) will be included as a finalist to receive a prize."

There will be an opportunity to host events at the property, post-pandemic. The City is currently undertaking a Vision Plan and part of that process is to identify what type and size of events can be accommodated. We will keep the community apprised via our website, eNewsletter and social media channels.

Great job with new carts and course upgrades. Not so excited by new name(Oso Creek G.C.). Easily confused with Oak Creek G.C.(Irvine).
Also, isn't Oso Creek located some distance away along Jeronimo Road?
I'm totally biased, but I liked my nominee: SADDLEBACK VISTA G. C.
. . . . . you said to consider topography/terrain and local history in suggesting a new name for the golf course.

Thank you for your comments regarding the name and topography. Not only was that name the most submitted (with sixty entries), the naming committees felt that it was most appropriate as Oso Creek runs directly through the Golf Course down the center of the “Back Nine.”

Thank you for your clarification on the location of Oso Creek, but it sounds like the naming committees based their decisions on the majority of like-names submitted instead of the original guidelines suggested for naming
the golf course. Regardless of the name, the city is to be commended for
preserving and improving an affordable golf course for the average golfer.

I am thoroughly enjoying all of the drama around the name of the course. Very wholesome entertainment in these trying times.

Perhaps the City can hold a few more naming contests for city features? I'll start, let's re-name La Paz! My submission: Los Enganos

Golf cart purchases in the midst of a global pandemic. The money could have been better spend elsewhere for the City of Mission Viejo. You are building an expensive playground for a select few citizens of Mission Viejo.

Excited about the prospects for renewal of this course and facilities. If the city is able to achieve a result much like the Ben Brown's facility with an upscale restaurant and outdoor facility for entertainment, it will be a win! Glad to see the didn't go to more housing and will stay available for public recreation in the city.
