Planned power outage by SCE set for Oct. 22

More than 400 Mission Viejo customers will be without power on October 22 during an outage planned by Southern California Edison (SCE).

According to SCE, the roughly 8-hour outage will take place on October 22 beginning at 9 am near the cross streets of Los Alisos Blvd and Boxwood Lane.

The outage will allow SCE to replace a pad-mounted switch. An SCE representative said the utility expects to have the work completed ahead of schedule.

I am on oxygen 24/7 dependent on ac power. I do have some battery powered units which should provide several hours of backup power but if the outages are for extended time periods, what then? Please advise what options you would provide. Thank you.

This is a great question. I too would like to know. I'm not 24/7 dependent but only at night. My portable unit would only last a few hours on battery and my O2 tank lasts less than 5 hours.

SCE customers who are dependent on a medical device are encouraged to apply for the medical baseline program (https://www.sce.com/residential/assistance/medical-baseline). SCE reaches out to these customers individually to notify them about outages to ensure they are aware and can prepare for an extended outage. In addition, the program ensures that power is provided at the lowest baseline rate which helps offset the cost of operating the medical equipment.

SCE recommends that all customers who depend upon electrically-operated medical or life-support equipment for survival should be prepared at all times with a back-up power system or other plans necessary to ensure their health and welfare during outages. SCE does not provide back-up generation.
