Mission Viejo residents to benefit from new Oso Creek Golf Course Program

oso creek golf

The Oso Creek Golf Course will launch a new “Resident Program” beginning Monday, January 18.

The program allows golfers to book tee times at 5 am, eight days in advance, instead of the regular midnight booking with seven days in advance. Golfers must provide a Mission Viejo ID and utility bill to prove residence. The resident golfer can book up to four people per session; however, the individual must be present when checking in and golf with the group.

To sign-up, visit the Creek Shoppe located at the course. For more information, call 949-470-4996.

Your new resident booking policy lacks foresight and understanding on how to keep the Tee Times full.
You’ should bring back the Golf Leagues who provide steady booking and are willing to play very early in the morning and year round in less than ideal weather conditions. You should reconsider this half-witted new policy.

Other cities(i.e. San Clemente, Long Beach) have a reduced green fee for local residents. It is a thoughtful gesture and something to consider.

Good idea. We live near the course and play every week but have a hard time booking good tee times. I second the resident discount!

The local discount (since our taxes pay for the course, salaries, etc) seems like a given. Please make this happen ASAP, it's common sense.

FYI $48 is more than it costs to play a full 18 at a better muni for a local in San Clemente. For shame city council, for shame.

Thank you for taking your time to write the City and express your concerns. The City has inventoried courses throughout the region and believes the price for the round of golf and the cart cost is competitive to the industry. Our cart fees were increased due to the increased lease cost of the new carts. The greens fee of $36 is very reasonable.

What is unique about Oso Creek Golf Course, compared to other municipal courses, is that the City of Mission Viejo is not subsidizing the operations (salaries and maintenance) with tax dollars/general fund monies. The course is self-sustaining and all of the improvements that have been accomplished have all been paid for with funds generated from activity at the course. This is an important distinction and something that was promised to the community when the course was purchased to save and protect the open space from residential development.

The booking time advantage for MV residents is a good start. Most municipal courses, e.g. Coronado Municipal , Torrey Pines, have reduced rates for residents. These are standard 18 hole courses. Non-resident fees can offset the reduced reduced resident fees to keep the course self-sustaining. Make being a resident of this wonderful city a real benefit for its golfers.

Here is the response to the MV representative that wrote me personally as well as to the MV rep that posted here to my original post...

Thank you for the reply, I was not expecting that.

All that said, maybe making the land into housing would have been better if the thought that a par 60 course should be more expensive for city residents than par 70-72 courses throughout the region.

One year ago, my son and I, members of the American Golf Players Club ($22 a month each) could play a full 18 holes, including cart and a beverage, for $6 at Casta del Sol.

Was that too good to be true? Sure, probably. However, to make such radical changes and leave no city option for youth golfers and their families to play for reasonable rates at an introductory level course is really inconsiderate and counterproductive to building an all inclusive environment.

Please review your research into what is competitive rate wise (par 60 compared to a par 72 is 16.67% less play). Are the city resident rates 16.67% less than...let’s say San Clemente? (I’ll save you the time, no, Oso Creek is actually more expensive, not including the 16.67% less golf.)
