Free Compost Giveaway April 24
In celebration of Earth Day, the City's trash hauler - Waste Management - will offer Mission Viejo residents free compost on Saturday, April 24 at 11 am in the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center parking lot, 28095 Hillcrest.
Quantities are limited. Each household will be allotted up to 36 gallons while supplies last. Residents should bring a shovel and bag (or container) to fill.
Masks and social distancing will be required.
Composting is the recycling of organic materials back into a useful soil product that can be used in gardens or on potted plants. It can save you money and time and can reduce your garden's watering and weeding needs. It also benefits the environment by recycling valuable organic resources and extending the life of our landfills. This compost is a rich, organic soil amendment that consists of composted, recycled green waste collected as part of the City's residential recycling program.

Very disappointed. Got there at 1055 am. Line of cars was very long and no compost left. I heard from one person that by 1030 the pile was 1/2 gone. There were a lot of people still arriving when I left at 1120. It would have been better if there was someone from the city there to regulate the time and amount people were picking up.

My husband and I were there before 12:20 noon time today, and all compost were gone, what a disappointment. We were waiting for this event since it was announced.

I was looking forward to this event however when I got there at 10:55 the compost was just about gone and people were scraping the pavement trying to get the last little bits of it. The notice above, as well as the notice in the MV newsletter, stated the event was scheduled to START at 11:00. This was obviously not the case. I'm very disappointed in the way this event was managed!

Very poorly managed. Got there at 11:07 and material was completely gone! Next time you plan a giveaway you should adhere to your schedule or have enough materials on hand to supply the need.
