Mission Viejo Library reopens for General Admission April 30

library

The Mission Viejo Library is gearing up to open to the public without appointments on Friday, April 30.

The reopening includes the library's south wing where patrons can browse non-fiction print and audiobooks, biographies and local history. Public computers will be available as well as study seating for students and others seeking a quiet spot to relax or do homework and other projects.

The library will be open from noon to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday with the convenient curbside pickup service continuing during operating hours. To ensure the library is able to remain open and keep patrons and staff safe, masks are required at all times for everyone age 2 and older.

"We are thrilled to welcome patrons back to the library without appointments," said Library and Cultural Services Director Genesis Hansen. "Since the onset of the pandemic, we have worked diligently and creatively to provide ongoing services and are thrilled to expand those services safely to patrons."

Furniture has been reconfigured to support physical distancing, and patrons are asked to maintain 6 feet of distance with everyone outside of their household.

The Mission Viejo Library is located at 100 Civic Center. For more information, call 949-830-7100 and select option 5.

Thank you, this is great news!! You have done such a good job of providing ongoing services while making safety a top priority. Will you eventually be reopening the bookstore as well?

I would like to second Susan Ishikawa's question of when will Passport Services at the Library be available again?

Thank you for your comments and interest in the reopening of the Library. The Friends’ Bookstore will accept donations of gently used books, DVDs and CDs on May 10 and 17. For those two Mondays only, the bookstore’s backdoor will be open from 11 am to 5 pm to accept delivery of used materials. Parking spaces near the backdoor will be clearly marked to indicate the donation delivery zone, and volunteers and patrons are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing.

The Library hopes to return to a more regular donation schedule once the bookstore reopens, which is scheduled for Tuesday, June 22. Stay tuned for more details about the reopening.

The passport office is currently open for appointments at 949-470-8420.

Passport blue button Schedule Appointment not working?!? When I click the button nothing shows for at least the next 10 years! Is your system down? If everything is booked and appointments can only be made for 1 or 2 months then you may need to update your website to let people know otherwise it looks like your system is broken. I tried the telephone (949) 470-8420 but it is just a voice automated number. There is no email address. So have no idea how to contact the Mission Viejo Library Passport office.

Thank you for your comment and your feedback, and we will look to add clarity on the website. We are booking passport appointments up to two months in advance, but the appointment slots are currently filled so nothing displays as available. When Library hours expand in July we will add more appointment times for passports, so please continue to check back. In the meantime, we’ll clarify the language on the website to reflect how far in advance appointments are made available.
