Setting the record straight about proposed economic revitalization to our downtown and Core Area Vision Plan

core area vision

As the City has reported, Mission Viejo is proactively and uniquely working to address the economic fallout from the pandemic by considering the opportunity for economic revitalization to the downtown that will benefit this community for generations to come.

The City Council tonight (Sept. 14) will consider investing in the downtown area by negotiating the purchase of the Stein Mart site on Marguerite Parkway through bond financing. This area is part of the Core Area Vision Plan, the community-based dynamic design for the City’s Downtown Core area that was approved by the City in 2017.

To be clear, the proposed bond financing under consideration tonight to fund the Stein Mart property purchase as a step toward the much-needed redevelopment of our downtown core does not include a plan for the elimination of any current City programs and services. While the City’s Agenda Report mentions the reduction and elimination of some subsidies, the City is proposing to redirect and replace funding with the least impact to current service levels of programming. You can find detailed information in the City Council Agenda Packet.

The meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center. If you cannot attend, please tune in at this link or watch on Cox Channel 30 or AT&T U-verse Channel 99.

Do it! We need the downtown area to shine. It will bring more businesses and more trade. This area could use a good revamping !

i called the number above with questions after the last time the council pushed this out. no one answered and no one ever called me back. it's obviously a p.r. firm and they only want 'friendly" questions. not the hard ones.

If anyone else is following this, I just want you to know…someone from this p.r. Firm called today while I was out to say they were so sorry they hadn’t responded. They said they’d checked their logs…all the way back to the last time this subject came up…and I really HAD called, and they were sorry. So whoever at the city that monitors this and/or the p.r. Firm thought I might have lied about calling? Thanks for that. Insult to injury. This,is how,our city operates.
