Next phase of arterial slope rehabilitation project underway

alicia / jeronimo

As part of an ongoing effort to conserve water, benefit the environment and beautify Mission Viejo, the City has embarked on the next phase of arterial landscape slope rehabilitation along a stretch of Jeronimo Road.

The work, which takes place on both sides of Jeronimo from Alicia to Montilla Lane, entails removing and replacing old, declining vegetation with drought-tolerant trees, shrubs and groundcover. The effort also includes evaluating trees for selective trimming or removal, renovating antiquated irrigation systems, installing Smart irrigation controllers and erosion-control measures.

The slope rehabilitation program along Jeronimo Road also utilizes recycled/reclaimed irrigation water adding to the overall citywide water conservation efforts.

I emailed the city last summer to have many tree branches trimmed that were hanging over the roadway that were in jeopardy of falling.
The pine trees in the meduim constantly drop pinecones.
This is a dangerous drive watching for falling pine cones. We love our tree city but I hope that the pine trees in the medium will properly maintained.

Why is the renovation stopping at Montilla? When is the stretch from Montilla to Marguerite going to be addressed? It needs major renovation specially from Carranza to Quintana.

Will the Jeronimo rehabilitation along a stretch of Jeronimo Road eventually extend to Marguerite Pkwy?

Thank you for your comments. Much like other arterial slope rehabilitation projects throughout the City, the plan is to complete the entire length of the street in phases. This current phase of the project calls for work on Jeronimo from Alicia to Montilla, and other sections of the street will be addressed in future phases.

Hello,
I live on the last part of Jeronimo, almost by Margarite. My concern is the traffic noise. You cut down major trees in front of me and now the traffic noise from Jeronimo and Margarite is hitting us more. We have the Church across the street and all the noise bounces back from their exterior wall to us.
Will you be placing trees all the way up to Margarite and also most importantly, in the middle? It would benefit the noise tremendously if we would get trees in the middle section of Jeronimo up until passing the Church to Margarite.
Thank you!
