Mission Viejo Library operations temporarily adjusted due to COVID-19 spike

library

With an increased number of City staff recently testing positive for COVID-19 – as cases continue to spike in California – the Mission Viejo Library’s hours are being adjusted to available staffing levels.

Out of an abundance of caution, the City is also canceling indoor programming, suspending passport walk-in services and closing the bookstore and genealogy desk.

To keep the library open while short staffed, the facility will close at 6 pm Monday through Thursday. On Friday July 22 and July 29, the library will be closed for deep cleaning and disinfection. Though passport walk-in services will be suspended, additional appointment slots will be available between 9 am and 4 pm each Wednesday and Thursday.

The changes will be in effect for at least two weeks. The shift in operations comes as the number of COVID-19 patients in California hospitals has more than quadrupled in the past three months. As of Thursday, 4,432 patients had COVID, up from a low of 949 on April 16, according to the Orange County Register.

The adjustment times make me incredibly sad as I am a student and heavily depend on the night study opportunity. I understand the need for the change and am grateful that the library is still open. Thank you for all you do to serve our community.

The library closure does not seem to be similar to other City facilities such as Tavern on the Green and large close feathering’s at the Lake, etc…

possibly the student that relies on night study may be able to go to another library for the time being-such as an Orange County Public Library, as there is one in RSM and one on El Toro, if they are not having the same issue.

How long is MV going to play along with the media scare? This is ridiculous. You can't keep running from this 2+ years later. Turn off the news and live. Mission Viejo has some strange rules right now that aren't aligning with the rest of South OC at all!

Thank you very much for taking care to protect your staff, volunteers and the public.

I know it is not easy to make the decisions you have made and to constantly adjust services. As much as I enjoy visiting the library in person, I am glad you are being careful. I know many people who have gotten the latest version of covid recently in spite of being careful.
I fully support your efforts to keep everyone safe.
