Council hosts first meeting of 2023 on Jan. 10

council meeting update

In the City Council’s first meeting of 2023 on January 10, Council Members will consider business items as well as recognize some amazing accomplishments.

Based on recommendations from the Planning and Transportation Commission in November, the Council will consider a citywide speed limit update.

Council Members will also consider a lease agreement with U.S. Representative Young Kim for office space in City Hall as well as an update to the ordinance regarding serving on City Commissions. This would decide whether Commissioners should match the City Council voting districts or continue to serve at-large.

Keeping in step with our City’s efforts to support important causes, a $20,000 check will be presented to Big Brothers Big Sisters as part of the more than $40,000 raised at the Konrad Reuland Charity Tennis/Pickleball Tournament in 2022 at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion and Felipe Tennis and Recreation Center. Proceeds also benefited Donate Life, an organ and tissue donation entity and the Lisa Colagrossi Foundation, which spreads awareness and support for brain aneurysm research and education.

The Council will also recognize the Saddleback College women’s soccer team for its state title and being ranked #1 in the nation by United Soccer Coaches.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting that takes place at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 200 Civic Center. Council meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.

Is the council going to recognize the Mission Viejo Varsity Football Team's accomplishments this past season? One of their Defensive Team players ended up being #1 in the STATE for the number of interceptions, and many were recognized at the League, CIF, and County elite teams.

Please do not raise the speed limits. With all the children riding ebikes this would be an unsafe thing.
I go further by saying Antonio parkway and portions of crown valley parkway should be lowered from their freeway like speeds to something less than 55.
Thank you

I appreciated the notification of the support of local community services.

A site note on Dr.Guevara and Alameda street and notice on the entire block there’s signs saying No parking from 1:00 am to 5:00 am and the regulation on the traffic has been ignored .

I would like to present my case to the city council

It's exciting that U.S Representative Young Kim is considering an office lease in our beautiful City Hall.

Guess what is missing from the agenda. The city attorney has NOT gone to the NEW council for direction or to gain authority for him to go to the appellate court.

Is he afraid that he won’t get the required votes for him to pursue another losing lawsuit?

Is the city attorney is using our tax dollars to fund his own ego trip?

There is only one council member on the council who was removed from office by Order of the Court, and was duly re-elected.

It has been well-established that three Council members remained in office beyond their two-year elected term, and after the Appellate Court removed its Stay, Bucknum, Sachs and Raths were removed from office by Order of the Court.

It is time for this NEW council to grab back the reins and show leadership and remind the city attorney and the city manager that they work for the council and the council needs to be reminded that they work for the voters.
