Free compost giveaway for Mission Viejo residents April 15

compost giveaway

In celebration of Earth Day, the City's trash hauler - Waste Management of Orange County - and green waste processor - Tierra Verde Industries - will offer free compost for Mission Viejo residents at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center on Saturday, April 15 at 9 am.

Proof of Mission Viejo residency is required. Quantities are limited. Each person will be allotted up to 36 gallons while supplies last. Residents should bring a shovel and bag (or container) to fill.

Composting is the recycling of organic materials back into a useful soil product that can be used in gardens or on potted plants. It can save you money and time and can reduce your garden's watering and weeding needs. It also benefits the environment by recycling valuable organic resources and extending the life of our landfills. This compost is a rich, organic soil amendment that consists of composted, recycled green waste collected as part of the City's residential recycling program.

For more information, contact 949-470-8458 or greenmv@cityofmissionviejo.org.

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center is located at 28095 Hillcrest.

Our families have lived within the Mission Viejo Community since 1971. This grand Community offers its residents so many good opportunities and this current one is no exception. Unfortunately many Senior Citizens don't have family still living and are weak or disabled and cannot do the manual labor required to partake in this type of opportunity. Just as a suggestion for perhaps any future offerings of this kind might the organizers consider having volunteers who might shovel and load up for those Physically Challenged residents who cannot do the work? Just a thought. Respectfully, I thank all the organizers and those who have donated the materials. May you all be Blessed for your efforts to help our Residents. Sincerely yours, Louise Sobieski, resident of Casta Del Sol.
