Assemblywoman Kate Sanchez (R-Rancho Santa Margarita) named Council Member Wendy Bucknum AD71 Woman of the Year for her dedication and continued service to the Mission Viejo community, according to the following press release from the legislator's office.

"I am proud to select the Honorable Wendy Bucknum, City Councilwoman from the City of Mission Viejo, as our 2024 Woman of the Year," said Assemblywoman Sanchez in the release. "Wendy has made an incredible impact in the Mission Viejo community with her volunteerism in youth sports to her service on the Mission Viejo City Council... Wendy cares about her community."

Council Member Bucknum has left a lasting impact on the City of Mission Viejo. For more than 30 years, she has served as a leader in the community association industry as well as more recently formed the Sober Living Task Force. The Council Member's volunteerism reaches across the spectrum. From her time assisting in the classroom to the days working at swim meets, she is a beloved fixture in the Mission Viejo community. As Council Member and former Mayor, she is a champion of City policies that are fair, understandable, and good for the economy. She has made her City and community a better place to live.

"Wendy is a great example of what makes our communities stronger," Assemblywoman Sanchez said.  "There is no doubt she places service above herself. That is why I could not think of anyone better to name as Woman of the Year than the Honorable Wendy Bucknum."

This is the message I left for Assemblywoman Kate Sanchez at: https://lcmspubcontact.lc.ca.gov/PublicLCMS/ContactPopup.php?district=A…

Dear Assemblywoman Sanchez:

I have a question. How can you be removed from office by Order of the Court, and affirmed by the Court of Appeal and then be named the AD71 Woman of the Year?

Judge Schwarm ruled on September 21, 2022 that defendants were "guilty of usurping or intruding into, or unlawfully holding the office of member of the City Council of Mission Viejo, and is excluded and removed from ... respective office as City Council member of the City in Mission Viejo as of 5:00 PM on August 31, 2022..."

No one on the Council has apologized. The official public record has been highly censored. This entire disgraceful, self-serving power grab has been swept under the rug. Many Mission Viejo residents are totally unaware of the outcome of the Quo Warranto proceedings that removed Ed Sachs, Greg Raths and Wendy Bucknum from office.

Your choice for Woman of the Year brings into question not only your core of beliefs but also how or who persuades you

Your choice for Woman of the Year brings into question not only your core of beliefs but also your decision-making abilities.

This action also appears to be part of an effort to pump Bucknum's apparent ambition for higher office. Are you preparing to endorse Wendy for your assembly seat when you are termed out?

Also, who received the AD71 Woman of the Year recognition in previous years?
