Candlelight vigil Sunday, Nov. 4 will demonstrate Mission Viejo’s unity and solidarity

To demonstrate unity and solidarity, a candlelight vigil will be held in Mission Viejo at 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 4.
The one-hour ceremony along the Village Green next to the Norman P. Murray Community Center follows the massacre at a Pittsburgh synagogue and vandalism at an Irvine synagogue.
Rabbi Zalman Marcus of Chabad Jewish Center of Mission Viejo and other religious leaders will join Mayor Ed Sachs in mourning the victims and signifying love over hate; solidarity; community strength; and pride. It’s what defines this diverse and special City.
This event will be a chance for residents to band together and show we do not support these acts of hatred.

The center is located at 24932 Veterans Way.  For more information, call 949-770-1270.

No good reason to wear blue. Instead wear something indicative of solidarity with that congregation (e.g. a black shirt = color of mourning) or a red, white and blue combo to show we are all Americans and insanity like what happened there will not divide us.

So important to show solidarity, and to be a part of the healing process. Stand for love not hate, and begin right here where we live.

The ceremony was well-done and inspirational. Thank you MV for doing this.
One suggestion to make it even better: It would have been nice to end the program by having everyone sing "God Bless America". That would have been a fitting way to end.

Being from Squirrel Hill in Pittsburgh PA, I came to the vigil with a heavy heart. I felt some comfort being with people who respected the victims of the tragedy.

My wife and I attended and were moved by the quiet loving spirit that was demonstrated by the people attending, including Christians, Moslems and other faith bodies and people in general who live here in Mission Viejo.

Bikeway Survey

The City of Mission Viejo is developing a Bikeway Master Plan to improve the cycling experience in our community and encourage more people to enjoy riding their bicycles. We are currently in the process of gathering information to understand current cycling trends and preferences in the City.

As part of this effort, beginning on November 8th and running through December 7th, we are seeking resident feedback via a short, online survey. The survey will be available on our website, in our newsletter, and via our social media sites.

The online survey is available at https://tinyurl.com/missionviejobike, and those who participate will qualify for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card.
