Calling local U.S. military veterans! Registration is now available for the 7th annual Mission Armed Forces game this fall at Mission Viejo High School.

Mission Viejo locals are encouraged to nominate a friend or family member who has served in a branch of the U.S. Military.

Selected veterans and their families will experience a pre-game dinner, reserved seating and post-game recognition ceremony where each honoree will receive a jersey.

The game is on Friday, October 25 at Mission Viejo High School, and the community is invited to pay homage to our veterans and cheer on the football team.

Nominations can be submitted at this link. See highlights from last year’s game on South County SportsZone.

I am a military veteran. I am a US Navy Vietnam-Era Veteran(served from 9/1958 to 9/1964), Lifetime member of the American Legion and have lived in Mission Viejo for 22 years. I was in the Naval Air branch of the Navy and served on active duty when President Kennedy activated my squadron which was located at Los Alamitos Naval Air Station in Los Alamitos, CA in Orange County. My squadron at Los Alamitos NAS was a long-range patrol squadron focused on submarine detection & destruction. I then moved on to a Heavy Attack Squadron, VAH-2, ("Heavy Two") which flew A3D aircraft which were capable of carrying nuclear bomb's. This squadron was attached to the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43). My responsibilities were focused on the aircraft's electronics equipment as an Aviation Electronics Technician. After serving I went back to college and graduated with an Engineering degree from Long Beach State University. I also live in walking distance from Mission Viejo HS where I have also taught as a Substitute Teacher.

I would like to attend the Mission Armed Forces Game in 2020. I currently reside in Florida; however, I lived in Mission Viejo on 2 separate occasions - most recently from 1995 to 2015. I have 3 daughters who graduated from MVHS, in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

I served on active duty in the United States Army from 11/68 to 8/71 as a Special Agent in Army Intelligence. I was stationed in Newark, NJ. Since I lived in the civilian community and wore civilian clothes, I was not affected by the animosity most faced who served in the military during the Vietnam War. My military service was followed by a career as a Special Agent with the United States Treasury Department from 1972 until my retirement in July 1999. I attended an Armed Forces Game on one occasion and was greatly impressed by the showing of patriotism by the people, and especially the faculty and students, of MIssion Viejo. I have been very proud of my service to my country and always honor veterans whenever I meet them.
