movie film

You are invited to enjoy the feature film "Yankee Doodle Dandy" on Sunday, June 23 at Mission Viejo Civic Center as part of the free movie series sponsored by the Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee.  This G-rated film begins at 2 pm and highlights Mission Viejo's character quality of "citizenship."

"Yankee Doodle Dandy" is a 1942 American biographical musical film about George M. Cohan, known as the man who owned Broadway.  It stars James Cagney, who won an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.  George M. Cohan was born on the July 4th and this American patriot was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal by President Franklin D. Roosevelt for his contributions during World War I.  In 1993, the film was selected for preservation in the United States Registry by the Library of Congress for being culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.

You will watch the film on a theater-sized screen in theater-style seating at 200 Civic Center, just across from the Mission Viejo Library.  A brief discussion about citizenship in our community and nation follows the film presentation.
