Escrow set to close on Casta del Sol Golf Course, but operations will remain the same

casta del sol golf

Within the next few days, the City of Mission Viejo will close escrow on the Casta del Sol Golf Course - a move that has preserved more than 100 acres of open space in the heart of the community.

The golf course property and open space behind it (totaling 108 acres) will provide a critical link to the Oso Creek Trail and well beyond. While the City takes ownership of the property, it will still be managed by American Golf Corporation.

During the next 6-8 months, the City will evaluate the course operations and look at developing a long-term plan for capital improvements.

The Casta del Sol course has long been a significant community-oriented property with an emphasis on benefiting residents and guests as well as the entire Mission Viejo community.

Need to renovate the restaurants, better customer services.
And I don’t mind pay more.

Please improve the 9 hole course, into a premier first class regulation size, or a executive 18 hole layout. Beautifully designed
and picturesque landscapes with indigenous tranquility to enjoy.

Water, sand, creeks side bail outs, fair roughs, clean fairways... something the Mission Viejo Community can be proud to be a senior member, patron or guest to play year round...

Thank You, RMH

Since only 8% of the U.S. population plays golf how about we turn the course into an awesome park with water features, trails, gardens, G9Ftretc.

Update the restaurant and make into a nice venue to rent out. Keep the golf course in good shape. It’s such a nice community course.

Where will the funding come from? The City Council has already eliminated the "primary strategic goal...to replace/rehabilitate one park playground in each fiscal year."

From the NGF Feasibility Study:

Golf Course Renovation
The NGF team has pointed out that there are no components of the existing golf facility that are not in need to significant upgrade or outright replacement. In light of this finding and the other considerations discussed above for maximizing the overall value of Casta del Sol GC ownership from a City perspective, NGF recommends a full renovation of the golf facility. This will involve rebuilding all or
most portions of the golf features and infrastructure, and would likely involve rebuilding the existing clubhouse in its entirety. The maintenance facility, due to its age and proximity to the waterway (creek), is also a candidate for rebuilding.

I concur that the CdS golf course needs some improvement especially the club house. There are few decent restaurant in the area and the other golf courses nearby have respectful club houses with attached attractive restaurants. Now is the best time to upgrade CdS golf course.

You realize that improvements cost money. The city didn't just take over this property to throw money at it. It expects a return on it's investment. First off, the renovations will take years, by estimation 8 to 10. Second, once the renovations happen, prices will increase. Think about it, there's a reason this place went downhill and why the city was able to purchase it. It's a losing proposition. More tax dollars gone to waste. This is a bigger piece of the whole Oso Creek trail rejuvenation plan. It's going to fail and the residents are going to be the ones left holding the bag.
