Community rallying around baby battling brain cancer

Braydn

Mission Viejo is made up of caring people who give back and care for those in need. In big ways and small, the compassion of our residents is evident. City staff was reminded of this fact when the Mission Viejo Homeschool Group – winners of our recent Spookiest Scarecrow contest – decided to donate their prize money to a family in need.

The McCleave family of seven is living a nightmare no family should ever endure. The family’s youngest child, 7-month-old Braydn, is battling brain cancer. Over the last four months, he’s had 14 brain surgeries and multiple invasive tests. The cancer has spread to his spine. Braydn’s dad is a firefighter who works long days while his mom tries to care for him and his four brothers. Their medical bills continue to mount as the family prays for a miracle for their beautiful child.

Not only has the McCleave’s story touched the generous Mission Viejo Homeschool Group; it has affected City staff. Anyone interested in donating or wanting information on how to help should contact Community Services Manager Andrew Fine at 949-470-3003 or afine@cityofmissionviejo.org.

I will be glad to deliver a dinner for your family and to enlist friends to do the same, if that would be helpful to your family. I am an auxiliary member at Mission Hospital. You may email me anytime. Best to you, Janet

There are both a Gofundme page and a meal train Mr. Fine can share with you. We are so very grateful for the overwhelming generosity bestowed upon our family during this difficult time. All of your continued prayers and words of encouragement offers us the ability to recharge every day and continue to tackle the challenges ahead of us. We have been so blessed by this amazing community who have been scrambling to ensure we have an amazing holiday season. We will never move away from Mission Viejo, because YOU our community is not one we can replace. Thank you all for keeping us in your hearts and may you have a blessed holiday season.

I’m so very sorry for what you and your family are going through. I lost my mother to brain cancer and know how devastating it can be. I will donate on your go fund me page, keep your family in my prayers and offer to provide babysitting, grocery shopping, laundry or anything else you may need. Donna Livermore
