Take precautions to prevent Novel Coronavirus Disease

novel coronavirus

The second and third Orange County cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) were identified this week as presumptive positives, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. Both cases had a history of recent international travel to a country with known local spread of COVID-19. The Orange County Health Care Agency is identifying and contacting any community exposures to these cases.

For a medical emergency like COVID-19, the Health Care Agency serves as the lead agency. City staff members have attended all OC COVID-19 briefings, and the City is following recommendations of the Orange County Healthcare Agency and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  The City will continue to relay information from the county via our eNewsletter, social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Nextdoor) and news page.

While the Health Care Agency acknowledges the "situation is rapidly evolving," officials still believe the risk to the general public remains low.

As a reminder to prevent this and other illnesses, wash your hands often with soap and water; avoid close contact with people who are sick; stay home if you are sick; and cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or sleeve.

For more detailed information, visit the Health Care Agency link.

Can we have information of when they returned home. Was it recently or was it months ago? About 2months ago I had respiratory illness that I had to get an inhaler and I assumed it was just asthma but the strange thing is it’s been over 20 years since I had had asthma. Then shortly thereafter, my son got sick with a fever and cough. Than my wife got sick with the same symptoms. During my wife’s Illness she went to urgent care twice where both doctors (different ones on different days) didn’t even test for the flu but just assumed she had the flu and started a round of antibiotics and she is fine now. Not sure if this is a new thing but both doctors didn’t even test for a flu they both just assumed and started her on antibiotics. The first time the antibiotics weren’t strong enough.

The City of Mission Viejo does not have information regarding the date the infected patients returned home from travel.

For a medical emergency like COVID-19, the Orange County Health Care Agency serves as the lead agency. They have information available on their website at: http://www.ochealthinfo.com/phs/about/epidasmt/epi/dip/prevention/novel… and they also have a hotline for COVID-19 questions. The hotline is open M-F from 8 am to 5 pm and the number is (800) 564-8448.

CDPH New Guidance for COVID-19:
"Mass gatherings (where large numbers of people are within an
arm’s length of one another) and large community events bring people from multiple communities into close contact with each other and have the potential to increase COVID-19

One method to slow the spread of respiratory virus infections, including COVID-19, is by increasing social distancing (reduce close contact).

Events may still need to be modified, canceled, or postponed if participants are traveling from communities with COVID-19 outbreaks."

So why is MV Nadadores attempting to host a big JO swim meet this weekend after it was cancelled by City of Pasadena. With the rain and everyone huddling under a tent to stay dry, that is a big set up to spread infections. All the medical experts, CDC and WHO, said to decrease crowds. A lot of professional and other sports are postponing their competitions.

NCAA and NBA just limited attendees. Why does Mission Viejo believe they are immune to COVID-19. I grew up swimming and made it to college swimming but this is very careless. just because the mayor of mission Viejo mayor ( Brian Goodell) is tied to the Mission Viejo Nadadores its very irresponsible to step in after it was canceled in Pasadena. why not reschedule it for a later date.
Orange county has cases already and Pasadena had none. that speaks volumes. Now Mission Viejo has invited groups of swimmers and families from all over.
Directly from the CDC website:

Before a COVID-19 outbreak occurs in your community: Plan
A COVID-19 outbreak could last for a long time. Depending on the severity of the outbreak, public health officials may recommend community actions designed to limit exposure to COVID-19. Officials may ask you to modify, postpone, or cancel large events for the safety and well-being of your event staff, participants, and the community. The details of your emergency operations plan should be based on the size and duration of your events, demographics of the participants, complexity of your event operations, and type of on-site services and activities your event may offer.

Why has OC health not acted and advised less informed people of the dangers of hosting large events. I hope you don’t have elderly family members or those with health issues. Its about the bigger community and healthier folks to protect those who are older and less healthy.

Hosting a meet at MVN aquatics center with 2000+ people in attendance is very risky. Why is this allowed to happen??
