Golf Course maintenance postponed due to wet weather

closed march 30 to april 1

With continued rain in the forecast, the City of Mission Viejo is postponing its three-day planned closure of the Golf Course to March 30-April 1.

The closure, originally set for March 16-18, will allow the City to make much-needed improvements including aerifying the greens and fairways, painting the building and slurry sealing the parking lot.

The City also plans to rehabilitate a small portion of the interior and address plumbing issues. The course will remain open next week with limited access to the club house. The restaurant and bar will be closed until the plumbing repair is complete. The club house is expected to reopen on April 1.

We have lived on the front nine of the golf course since 1991. We just want to say how happy and grateful we are that the city now owns the property. It has never looked so good and well-cared for. Thank you.

Has the City noticed the number of small rogue (Mexican?) palm trees that have sprouted along the course? Palm trees are beautiful when they are planned and maintained. These rogue palms are either suffocating the mature trees they are sprouting under (as evidenced by dead branches that now need removal) or are positioned to cause cracks in and expensive repairs to stream and cart path concrete. And they come from the mature palms on the course that haven’t had their skirts and seed pods removed on an annual basis. I, for one, would like the City to maintain the golf course trees and clean up the hillsides.

Thank you for taking the time to express your concern regarding the condition of the slopes along the course. The City is aware of your concerns and is currently working on many basic infrastructure repairs first.

These have included getting the parking lot and building lights working again, adding an accessible ramp to the front of the building to make it legal, resurfacing the parking lot and repairing many major plumbing problems in the club house. We also have several infrastructure issues we will be addressing over the next several months. This has all been accomplished while using funds solely generated from the golf patrons.

We have plans in place to get the course irrigation system up and running so we can begin to grow grass. Also after the new fiscal year (July 2020) we will begin to address the slopes. The City renovation is slow but steady. We believe this is the most prudent and beneficial to the entire community.

Thank you for your input and we look forward to continuing our upgrades of the building, the golf course and the surrounding area.
