County of Orange Moves to Stage 2 Reopening

Stage 2 Guidance

The County of Orange plan to accelerate local businesses into Stage Two has been approved by the State of California. With adaptions, in-person dining reservations, retail shopping with social distancing and curbside pickup, manufacturing, offices (when telework is not possible), outdoor museums and other limited services will be allowed to re-open.

As a follow-up to the State’s approval of an immediate Stage 2 reopening, the County’s Health Officer issued a new order with recommendations to help slow the spread of COVID-19 now that the acceleration into the later phase of Stage 2 has been approved. The new order includes necessary preventative measures regarding the wearing of face coverings in public spaces, business re-opening guidelines, and instructions for persons exposed to COVID-19. Implementation of these guidelines was one of the criteria the California Department of Public Health considered before approving the plan to move further into Stage 2. Residents are encouraged to read the Health Officer’s Order in its entirety by clicking here.

I understand the importance hygiene and washing your hands. I also understand not going out if you are vulnerable or show symptoms of any contagious. But I worked in surgery for 25 years and was trained in infectious control. A mask will not protect the person wearing it, it protects others from sneezing. Mask worn long periods of time will effect intake of oxygen and will not help during physical activity. Please consider the mental health of students. Bring baseball back without mask restrictions. We need physical activity, sunshine and interactions. We love our city! Wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Thank you!

Symbolism over substance - Masks have become the image of fear.

This fear is contaminating our families, our jobs, our lifestyles.

I hate wearing a mask, but I wear one to protect others. I am aware that the masks should not be work "full-time," but I also know that I would feel awful if by not wearing a mask and then finding out that I had early stages of this flu and infected others around me. That's why I continue to stay home, wear a mask when I'm out, and "social distance." This epidemic is not over.

Other countries had locked downs. If you were jogging, the police told you not to. Some countries only allow ONE PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD to go out to the store if needed. Here, we are fighting to open our beaches. You don't need to lay out. Stay home, open the window. Talk a walk around the block. Tell your kids some stories, teach them some history. Stop whining. List to your doctors, stay home, wash your hands, wear a mask in public. We all know it's not fool proof, these mask, but it helps to slow the spread. I have lost 3 to the virus now. CUT THE CRAP OUT ALREADY. As long as I have to stay home, i'm okay with it because in the end, millions of people will get to live. LIVE.... And by staying home, you help the doctors and nurses have more time to take care of those that are sick without the virus. People in hospitals don't all have it. So stay home!

I also agree with Patricia and Natalie:

There is a reason why the new order and recommendations issued by the Orange County Health Dept: Say everyone should wear a face covering except if you have trouble breathing. I know alot of people that want to wear masks or face coverings, but they can't, either for mental or medical reasons.

I am glad O.C covers this and exempts them, from wearing such.

Q: Who is not required to wear a face covering and where am I not required to wear a face covering?

A: The face covering component of the Order does not apply to children under the age of 2; anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the cloth face covering without assistance; as well as individuals with a medical condition, mental health condition or developmental disability that prevents it.

The CDC recommends that everyone wear cloth face coverings when leaving their homes, regardless of whether they have fever or symptoms of COVID-19. This is because of evidence that people with COVID-19 can spread the disease, even when they don't have any symptoms. Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
