Animal Services

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center on Saturday, August 20 will host a drive-through low-cost pet vaccination clinic for Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita and Laguna Hills residents.

The low-cost clinic is from 8:30 to 10 am at 28095 Hillcrest.

Dots is the sweetest, most lovable 4-month-old kitten you will ever meet, which is incredible because he had a rough start at life.

Congratulations to Nancy Legault, our August 2022 volunteer of the month. Nancy started volunteering with us as a greeter last November.

She has excelled in this position, greeting, and directing every visitor who comes through our front gate. Nancy has also volunteered for center events and is constantly willing to go above and beyond her regular duties.

Meet Animal Services Representative Alison Nieves.

Alison began working at our center in February 2010 as a part-time licensing representative.  Before working at the center, she worked at OC Animal Care for 16 years.  She also worked for a year with the County of Orange Auditor-Controller but missed working in an animal shelter environment. Before her career in animal services, Alison worked in a hair salon for four years and still holds her cosmetology license today.

A duck bringing a group of ducklings across a busy street or through the heart of a densely populated neighborhood is a frequent and somewhat harrowing sight.

Many of the calls we receive during spring and summer are from people who want to know why they are there and how they can help the ducks.

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center is hosting a "Piggie Party" this month - offering residents the chance to add a furry friend to their homes for free.

Throughout this month, all guinea pig and rabbit adoption fees are waived, and adopters will receive party favors with each adoption.

To be considered as an adopter, fill out an application online or in-person at 28095 Hillcrest. For more information, call 949-470-3045 or visit cmvas.org.

Meet Chip, a 5-year-old neutered beautiful white cat. Chip was surrendered to the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center in May because of family issues and has been waiting for his forever home.

Weighing more than 15 pounds, Chip is a big bundle of love. His previous owner describes Chip as a friendly, cuddly lap cat that can be chatty at times. His favorite activity is eating. He can become hissy when he sees or hears other cats, so he should be the only cat in the home. Chip is full of personality and anyone would be lucky to have this sweet cat.

If you're thinking of adding a pet to your family but don't want the responsibility of a cat or dog, consider adopting a guinea pig. The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center has six adorable and friendly guinea pigs ready for adoption.

For families considering a pet for the first time, guinea pigs are a great option. They have their own personalities, enjoy a long lifespan, and are extremely vocal. They are entertaining and fun.

Seven reasons why guinea pigs make great pets:
