Eight people are vying for two City Council seats in the November 3 General Municipal Election – after the official filing period ended on August 7.

Listed in alphabetical order, the candidates are Jessica Gilbert, VP IT Department; Brian Goodell, Mission Viejo Mayor/Businessowner; Pauline Hale, Real Estate Advisor; Patricia "Trish" Kelley, Mission Viejo Councilmember/Businesswoman; Michael McConnell, Business Attorney; Cathy Schlicht, Businesswoman; Steve Sipe, Retired Technology Executive; and Ryan Tworek, Business Owner.

As part of its annual summer hiatus, the Mission Viejo City Council will resume business meetings on August 25.

Per Council Policy 0400-9 adopted in 1994, regularly scheduled City Council meetings are canceled each year from July 15 through August 15 as well as on the second Council meeting in December.

The filing period to run for Mission Viejo City Council opens Monday, July 13 and ends Friday, August 7.   

Two City Council seats are open in the General Municipal Election, which takes place on November 3. Candidates have until 5 p.m. on August 7 to file nomination documents and statements of qualification for office. The deadline extends to Wednesday, August 12 if an incumbent is not running for re-election and does not file papers by the August 7 deadline.
