Mission Viejo residents are invited to the free South Orange County Women’s Conference on Friday, March 22 at the Laguna Hills Community Center, 25555 Alicia Parkway.

Held from 8:45 am to noon, the 2024 conference features expert panels and a variety of career resources for women. Guests will hear from a panel of female leaders in public service – including Council Member Wendy Bucknum – as well as business, finance and nonprofit sectors.

City Manager Dennis Wilberg was honored by the City Council Tuesday for receiving the prestigious Wes McClure Award from the League of California Cities for his decades-long dedication

Chief of Police Services Captain Chris McDonald on Tuesday gave the City Council an update on crime statistics in 2023 and what trends the Sheriff’s Department has been experiencing.

The first monthly Night Market of 2024 is this Saturday, January 20 from 5-9 pm at the North Paseo, 25282 Marguerite Parkway.

This Night Market boasts a “Country” theme with live country music and line dancing; food trucks and booths; crafts; vendors; a slime make-and-take station and more. Beer will be available for purchase from Tap Truck OC.

The City of Mission Viejo is joining other South County cities in encouraging residents to volunteer for Orange County’s Point in Time (PIT) Homeless Count and Survey on Thursday, January 25.

The biennial Point in Time homeless count will provide updated numbers and demographics on the homeless population to help guide government response to the growing issue.

As the City prepares for the upcoming holidays, the public should be aware of facility operating hours.

Mission Viejo City Hall will be closed Monday, December 25 through Monday, January 1. City Hall at 200 Civic Center reopens at 8 am on Tuesday, January 2. 

Trash and recycling will be delayed by one day for the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s Day, but police, fire and other essential emergency City services will not be impacted by the closure. 

The winners of the Mission Viejo Activities Committee’s 51st Annual Holiday Home Lighting Contest have been announced.

More than 50 homes participated in this year’s contest that boasts categories like Most Creative Use of Lights; Most Creative Theme; Most Traditional/Festive; Religious Theme; New Kids on the Block; Showstopper; and Light Up Your Neighborhood Award.

Kelly Ellis, an Information Technology Administrative Assistant, has been named Mission Viejo’s 2023 Employee of the Year.  

Surrounded by colleagues and friends, she received the annual award Tuesday from City Manager Dennis Wilberg.  

Kelly performs her administrative duties at the highest level with attention to detail, exemplary customer service and is the epitome of a team player.
