Don't miss out! The City of Mission Viejo, in partnership with Waste Management, will be dropping off FREE compost at the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter (28095 Hillcrest) on Saturday, August 15th. Mission Viejo residents are welcome to bring their own shovel plus a bag or container and fill it up with fresh, healthy compost for their garden. Residents may stop by any time after 11:00 a.m., but please note compost will only be available while supplies last. We also ask that during this event you please follow proper social distancing guidelines and wear a face mask.

All six lanes - three in each direction - of Oso Parkway at the 241 Toll Road are open to drivers, marking a construction milestone for the Oso Parkway Bridge Project.

On Thursday, June 11 from 8-9 am, Waste Management’s Recycling Education and Outreach Manager Ashley Brunier will give a presentation on waste and recycling state legislation and its effects on residents and businesses in Orange County.

Bring your sensitive materials for immediate shredding during our free Document Shredding Event on Saturday, September 12 at Mission Viejo City Hall. 

The event is from 9 am to 11 am in the parking lot at 200 Civic Center Drive. 

The City and Waste Management host these free shredding events to help residents and businesses safely and securely dispose of sensitive documents like tax records, bank statements and legal documents.

To help residents and businesses safely and securely dispose of sensitive documents like tax records, bank statements and legal documents, the City and Waste Management are hosting a Document Shredding event on Saturday, March 7 at Mission Viejo High School.

Residents can bring up to 10 bags or boxes of sensitive materials to drop off in the school parking lot at 25025 Chrisanta Drive for immediate shredding by Orange County Shredding. Binders and notebooks will not be accepted.

Get ready for a fun-filled geocaching event in celebration of Leap Year at Pavion Park on Saturday, February 29.

Join other geocache enthusiasts at the park (N 33° 36.914' W 117° 37.996) at 2:29 pm to look for a series of new caches hidden along the Oso Creek Trail in the Jeronimo Open Space that will be published the day of the event. 

When the clock struck midnight on January 1, Assembly Bill 1594 went into effect, causing a spike to our trash rates. The increase comes after the state rolled out new regulations that limit organic waste going into landfills, reducing methane emissions that contribute to climate change.

The increases are reflected in your bills from Waste Management. For example, the single-family standard cart service rate went up by about 15 percent. Other rates vary.

So, why the increases?

Have you seen the new design on the MV Shuttle? The formerly plain white vehicles were recently enhanced with a vivid community theme designed by Community Relations Department graphics designer Toni Nunez.

The new look comes on the heels of the City taking over operations of the free shuttle service from the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA).
