Caltrans, working with the Transportation Corridor Agencies, has initiated the formal environmental review phase for the South County Traffic Relief Effort (SCTRE).

The state transportation agency is seeking public input on developing mobility solutions in South Orange County by holding two public scoping meetings along with a 30-day public comment period that ends at 5 pm on December 9.

The scoping meetings will be held open-house format with no formal presentation. Public comments will be accepted either verbally or in writing.

The City and Waste Management are teaming up to host a free composting workshop at 10 am on Saturday, October 5 in the Kershaw Garden at City Hall, 200 Civic Center.

Residents can learn how to turn their yard and food waste into organic fertilizer through vermi-composting (worm composting). Compost and vermi-composting containers will be available for Mission Viejo residents for purchase or order, with discounted bins provided to folks who register and attend the workshop.

Our City is gearing up for its annual Innercoastal Cleanup Day this Saturday, September 21.

Families, scouts, groups, businesses and individuals are invited to help clean up our environment from 8 am to noon, with registration at the Oso Creek Trail near the Potocki Center's lower parking lot at 27301 La Paz Road. 

All aboard the MV Shuttle!  From the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink train station to Lake Mission Viejo and many places in between, the MV Shuttle gets you where you want to go for FREE.  The convenient service, which resumes on August 20, transports folks to The Shops at Mission Viejo, Mission Hospital, Saddleback College, Capistrano Valley High School, Norman P. Murray Community Center, City Hall/library, YMCA/Marguerite Aquatics/Tennis Center and other locations.

Since the beginning of summer, we've seen more discharges of diatomaceous earth in the street. Commonly known as D.E., diatomaceous earth for pools is derived from tiny fossilized exoskeletons of algae-like water plants called diatoms. DE powder provides better filtration results for pools compared to sand filters and cartridge filter systems, which is why folks use them.

As part of OC Bus 360º, the Orange County Transportation Authority has proposed a plan to reallocate services to meet demand and optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of overall bus service. As a result of this plan, route 86 through Mission Viejo would be eliminated in February 2020.

The proposed route changes would delete the segment east of Jeronimo Road and Los Alisos Boulevard and terminate route 86 at Laguna Hills Transportation Center.

Due to insufficient ridership, MV Shuttle service must be discontinued for the summer effective Tuesday, June 11 through Monday, August 19, 2019.

Shuttle service will resume August 20 and an updated schedule and route will be available online at least 30 days in advance. For more information, call 949-470-3056.

This fun-filled event is from 10 am to 2 pm boasting bounce houses, reptiles, glitter tattoos and fire truck rides. Families will learn from garden and leak detection experts and have the chance to walk through a 5 ½-foot water pipeline.
