Free compost is available for Mission Viejo residents in the parking lot of the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, while supplies last.

The City of Mission Viejo is gearing up to host its annual Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration with a planting and Green Expo from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 13.

Volunteers will have the chance to embrace nature by planting trees and shrubs at Cordova Park, 26931 El Retiro. Participants should wear a hat, gloves, boots and sunscreen.  Free hotdogs and ice cream will be available for volunteers while supplies last.

If you want to enjoy the great south OC outdoors and tour sensational sustainable landscapes, mark your calendar for Saturday, April 13. That's when Moulton Niguel Water District hosts its NatureScape Garden Tour from 10 am to 2 pm and the Santa Margarita Water District invites residents to enjoy its SustainaBlue Landscapes Tour from 9 am to 1 pm.

OC Public Works will begin a project this month to complete routine repairs to the Crown Valley Parkway Bridge to extend its service life and maintain safe operation. The repair work, which starts mid-month includes cleaning the bridge's expansion joints and replacing joint seals.

Construction is set to begin next week on a project to rehabilitate the slope along the railroad in Mission Viejo below Jeronimo Road between Los Alisos Boulevard and Alicia Parkway. 

The work by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is expected to be loud and will take place weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on some weekends from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

The project should be finished in December. 

The City of Mission Viejo will begin two intersection-widening projects on September 10 designed to improve traffic flow in the area.  

The first project at Alicia Parkway and Marguerite Parkway calls for constructing a dual left-turn lane from westbound Alicia onto southbound Marguerite. It will also build a third through lane on eastbound Alicia. 

The second project at Marguerite Parkway and Santa Margarita Parkway entails constructing dual left-turn lanes from northbound and southbound Marguerite Parkway onto Santa Margarita Parkway.

With construction underway on the Oso Parkway Bridge Project, crews will begin work along the north side to construct the new bridge as County crews prepare to transition motorists to the south side of the roadway.  

Expanding its recycled water infrastructure to save drinking water, the Santa Margarita Water District will install recycled water pipelines in Mission Viejo beginning next month.
