Oso Parkway Bridge construction will shift motorists south

Oso parkway bridge project

With construction underway on the Oso Parkway Bridge Project, crews will begin work along the north side to construct the new bridge as County crews prepare to transition motorists to the south side of the roadway.

The Oso Parkway Bridge Project will replace a portion of Oso Parkway with a new bridge structure to provide motorists with a direct connection between Los Patrones Parkway and State Route 241, thus improving traffic flow and safety on Oso Parkway. The future bridge will contain six lanes (three in each direction), dedicated bike lanes and sidewalks. Pedestrian access to Tesoro High School will be improved with the construction of a new sidewalk on the south side of Oso Parkway. Orange County Public Works is overseeing construction of the two-year project.

Here's a summary of construction activities over the coming week:

7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25 - Paving Work

  • Crews will pave a temporary detour road along the south side of Oso Parkway between Los Patrones on- and off-ramps. Work is scheduled on the weekend to avoid impacts to school and work commuters.

9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28 to 5 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29 - Nighttime Work

  • Final preparation for the new temporary lanes on Oso Parkway. One lane in each direction will be open to motorists during this nighttime work.

Beginning after 5 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29 -  Temporary Lanes, Traffic Switch

  • Motorists will be transitioned to the new temporary lanes (two lanes in each direction) along the south side of Oso Parkway within the project area.
  • Traffic control measures will be in place. For the safety of the crews and traveling public, please observe all signs, barriers and personnel within the project area.
  • Traffic lanes will narrow slightly to 11 feet wide to keep motorists moving while accommodating construction.
  • U-turns at the intersection of Oso Parkway and northbound SR-241 will be prohibited.
