During the last City Council meeting of the year on December 12, Mayor Brian Goodell's State of the City video will premiere, highlighting the vast City accomplishments of 2023 and exciting progress moving forward.

The business portion of the Council meeting begins at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

Along with the State of the City video, Mayor Goodell will detail his attendance at the Panam Sports meetings in Santiago, Chile. While there, he met with more than 40 National Olympic Committees; and numerous International and National Sports Federations and International Olympic Committee members who are interested in training and staying in Mission Viejo to prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games.

In other news, the Council will discuss its annual reorganization to determine who will serve as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem in 2024. Council members will also consider a resilient surfacing renovation for the play areas at Pinecrest Park and Linda Vista Park.

Council meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.

Amazing how our City government continues to censor its news.

On Tuesday's agenda is the award of an almost half million dollar contract to one of the City's favorite sons, RJM.

Larry Ryan, Founder of RJM Design Group, spoke numerous times in favor of the Vision Plan. Apparently, at the council meeting, his reward is a $459,500 NON-BID contract, including demolition plans for the Stein Mart building.

I guess the council thinks it was wise to pay $12 million for a vacant and dilapidated, then spend $15 million to tear it down and rebuild. Our taxpayers will NEVER recoup the money on this hair-brained project that even the private sector did not want to touch.

When will the City issue its Press Release on the Court of Appeal decision regarding the Council voting to extend the terms of office for Bucknum, Sachs and Raths, who also voted to extend their own terms?

The public has a right to know. Government Code Section states in part:
"The people of this State do not yield their sovereignty to the agencies which serve them. The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they have created."

Please issue the City's official Press Release regarding the Court of Appeal December 4, 2023 outcome with respect to Judge Schwarm's August 31, 2023 ruling. Thank you.
