2024 goals outlined, safety measures approved during City Council’s first meeting of the year

Council Meeting Update

During the City Council’s first meeting of the new year on Tuesday, Mayor Trish Kelley highlighted her 2024 objectives, and the Council approved traffic safety enhancements to benefit the community, among other business.

Before Mayor Kelley outlined her goals for the new year, Council Member Brian Goodell was recognized for his service as Mayor in 2023.

To provide additional safety measures, the Council unanimously approved a School Zone along Santa Margarita Parkway between west City limits and Los Alisos Boulevard and reducing the posted speed limit from 50 mph to 25 mph while children are present.

In other Council news, a check of the money raised from the 3rd Annual Konrad Reuland Charity Tennis/Pickleball Tournament was presented to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. Created in honor of Konrad Reuland, a former NFL football player and Mission Viejo resident who died of a brain aneurysm at age 29, the event raises funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, Donate Life, Spirit League Special Needs Sports in Mission Viejo, and the Lisa Colagrossi Foundation. The Reuland family was on hand and spoke emotionally about the wonderful impact of the community’s efforts.

The City Council typically meets at 6 pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Meetings are streamed live on the City’s website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.

Please do something about the intersection of Alicia and Jeronimo. There are so many accidents there that I will no longer drive through that intersection. Thank you.
