Beware of using unsafe practices in response to COVID-19 crisis

If you think spraying alcohol or chlorine on your body will kill the coronavirus, think again. The World Health Organization (WHO) and County Health Care Agency are warning residents to stay away from this practice.

The warning comes as reports of people using unfounded and unsafe practices to prevent the virus is increasing.

Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill viruses that have already entered your body. Spraying such substances can be harmful to clothes or mucous membranes (i.e., eyes, mouth).

According to the WHO, both alcohol and chlorine can be useful to disinfect surfaces, but they need to be used under appropriate recommendations.
