City awarded Federal Safety Grant to enhance safety for access to public schools
The City has been awarded $560,000 from the United States Department of Transportation through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program.
The funds will be used to update and expand the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Plan developed by the City in 2012. The SRTS Plan will identify recommendations to enhance safety for access to all public schools within the City of Mission Viejo.
The process will include assembling a dedicated Stakeholder Working Group consisting of multidisciplinary partners with overlapping interests in safe routes to school to leverage collaboration. Once completed, the SRTS Plan will also establish eligibility for the City to apply for infrastructure grants through the SS4A program.
City staff is proactive in seeking regional, state, and federal grants to save City funding and benefit the community.
