mental health

In an effort to help young people facing mental health challenges, the City is hosting a Youth Mental Health Expo from 6-8 pm Wednesday, September 8 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Designed to build hope and resiliency during these unsettling times, the event will feature a host of information, resources and inspiration to help youth and young adults struggling with mental health challenges.

The Youth Mental Health Expo is geared toward high school students (14 and older), young adults, parents, family members, educators, and youth mentors. It will feature Ali Borowsky, founder and CEO of Find Your Anchor, sharing her inspirational journey from despair to wellness while guiding youth participants in a hands-on activity to build mental health stability.

“Suicide among young people is still a big concern in Orange County, and mental health challenges have only amplified because of the pandemic,” said Community Services Supervisor Leslie Rea-McDonald. “This event will help recognize mental health challenges facing our youth today and ways to deal with those issues.”

The expo will also include short presentations and opportunities for participants to interact with professionals from the Wellness and Prevention Center of San Clemente; Connect-OC Coalition-Partners4Wellness; Orange County Health Care Agency; American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; LGBTQ Center of Orange County; and Western Youth Services.

All registered guests will receive a free light dinner (via corporate sponsorship) and Starbucks coffee. Youth will receive written verification of community service hours for event attendance.  (COVID-19 precautions will be followed for food service and seating.)

Seats are limited, so register today. For more information call 949-470-3062.
