The generosity of Mission Viejo residents reflects the fabric of this community

donation drives

The weight of the pandemic has not crushed the spirit of giving in Mission Viejo. In fact, since spring 2020, Mission Viejo residents have donated 66,004 pounds of food; $13,300 in hygiene and PPE products; 33,767 diapers and wipes; and $2,200 in cash and gift cards to food, supply and diaper donations hosted by the City of Mission Viejo to benefit folks in need.

The City's twentieth and final "Drop and Go" food drive on December 11 at the Norman P. Murray Center netted 1,252 pounds of food and other in-kind donations during the two-hour event.

Fueled by thousands of residents, hundreds of volunteers, local businesses and City staff committed to addressing food insecurity through agency partnership and collaboration, these events have benefited nonprofits including OC Rescue Mission, South County Outreach, Families Forward, Family Assistance Ministries, StandUp for Kids, Project Access and Crime Survivors.

"The generosity of Mission Viejo residents reflects a community that cares, is action-oriented and acknowledges charitable giving as a foundational social value," said Community Services Supervisor Leslie Rea-McDonald.

The City is grateful to the residents, volunteers and agencies that give back and serve people in our community.
