Learn how to ‘Stop Human Trafficking’ this Saturday, Feb. 22
Parents and community members are urged to attend an important presentation designed to “Stop Human Trafficking” from 10 am to noon on Saturday, February 22 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.
Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women and children are trafficked worldwide. You will learn about preventing human trafficking in the region and what you can do to help victims.
The free program features experts including Jeff Jensen of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department; Kathie Perino of the Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative of Saddleback Church; Lauri Burns, CEO of Vera’s Sanctuary and Director of The Teen Project; and Sandra Morgan, RN, PhD, Director of the Global Center for Women and Justice as well as a member of the White House Public-Private Partnership Advisory Council to End Human Trafficking. The program is sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Mission Viejo/Saddleback Valley; AAUW Interbranch Council - Orange County; Mission Viejo Chamber of Commerce; and City of Mission Viejo.

My granddaughter went…
My granddaughter went through this horrific trafficking and was found and rescued by the Human Trafficking Task Force. Kathie and the H.T. Task Force helped us through this awful time and my granddaughter is home safe now. She needs help, but doesn’t want to go to counseling or talk about it. My first reach for help was talking to a policeman at the Civic Center in M.V. and they couldn’t help and had no information to help us, because she just turn 18 and wasn’t a minor anymore. So I turned to my church, Saddleback. I’m so glad to see this in M.V. now, bc its EVERYWHERE now! I can’t thank them enough. My health was affected terribly bc of this nightmare and I haven’t been able to attend the meetings, but can hopefully attend this meeting. There may be 3 of us. Thank you for doing this. It’s so important.

My granddaughter was involved in this horrific nightmare. I talked to a policeman at the M.V. Civic Center and they couldn’t help bc she just turned 18 and they didn’t have any other information to give us. I’m so glad that you’re doing this in M.V. now, bc its EVERYWHERE and so scary. So, I turned to my church, Saddleback. Kathie helped us so much, and the Human Trafficking Task Force, I’ll never be able to thank them enough. My health has been terribly affected by this nightmare and I’ve not been able to attend their meetings, but hopefully I can attend this meeting with my daughter and granddaughter, if she will attend. I’ve had several surgeries and in the hospital several times, including a 13 day ICU stay, so it’s been touch and go or I would have been much more involved. Hopefully I’ll be good enough to attend. Thank you!
